Lewis Structures for Ionic Compounds

It is less common to draw Lewis Structures for ionic compounds. However, they are useful for describing how valance electrons are transferred between a metal and a non-metal to form an ionic bond.

CaCl2 is an excellent example of how electrons are transferred in an ionic compound and how the charges are formed on each ion.
