How to Balance:

CuCl2 + Na2S → CuS + NaCl

Word equation: Copper (II) chloride + Sodium sulfide → Copper (II) sulfide + Sodium chloride

Type of Chemical Reaction: For this reaction we have a double displacement reaction.

Balancing Strategies: In this double dispalcement reaction the Cu in CuCl2 and the Na in Na2S are switching places.

Be sure to only change the coefficients (the numbers in front of the compounds) when balancing chemical equations.

For a complete explanation, watch:

When balancing chemical equations our goal is to have the same number of each type of atom on both sides of the equation.

Only change the coefficients (these are the numbers in front substances).
Coefficients are the numbers in front of the molecule.
Never change the subscripts (the small numbers after elements).
Coefficients are the numbers in front of the molecule.
